In 1980, six years before Lady Gaga was even born, The Missing Persons were formed. Dale Bozzio, the lead singer for The Missing Persons,
had a really futuristic look and often experimented with unusual outfits and creative makeup and hair.
Honestly, I’ve never heard if Lady Gaga has ever mentioned Dale Bozzio as an influence, but the similarity in their styles is hard to dismiss.
Lady Gaga has often said that she was influenced by artists of the ’80s and certainly seems reasonable that she may owe a
good deal of her early stylings to Dale.
Let’s compare the two in these videos:
First, Dale Bozzio performing the song “Words”
And now, Lady Gaga in “Bad Romance”
Dale Bozzio has stated that she was influenced by the black and white film era, especially Marlene Dietrich and Judy Garland. I actually couldn’t blame Lady Gaga if she took a hint or two from the always fashionable Dale. Lady Gaga is certainly creative, but the original futuristic pop diva has to be Dale Bozzio!
Dale just recently released a new album called “Dreaming”:
The voice of ’80s new wave icons Missing Persons, Dale Bozzio, returns to the stage with an astonishing new studio album of cover songs and originals!
Produced by the multi-talented Adam Hamilton, Dreaming offers lush keyboards and atmospheric interpretations of some classic rock/pop songs brought to life by Bozzio’s unmistakable voice!
Includes 2 original compositions that demonstrate Bozzio’s relevance to the modern electronic genre which her original band inspired!
